How to reset a SecureLogin Passphrase

fact

Novell SecureLogin 3.0.4

symptom

User has forgetten their Passphrase, and cannot get into the SecureLogin Data.

cause

The SecureLogin snapins do not have a facility to reset the Passphrase for an individual user.

fix

Load an instance of ConsoleOne without the NSL Snapins (it may be necessary to install an instance of C1 into its own directory).
Locate the user in the tree. Open the properties for that user, and go to the other tab. On the Other tab, delete the attributes that begin with PROT: (Should be PROT: SSO Auth, and PROT: SSO Entry). This will comepletely reset the users account for SecureLogin, including removal of application settings and secrets that are not stored using Novell SecretStore.

The passphrase is intended to be a security feature. If the user forgets their passphrase, resetting of the passphrase results in the loss of their information.
