How to apply patches to Novell Client Firewall

fix

NCF provides an auto update mechanism to install patches from the web. At the NCF front end, the patches are pulled using the menu option Tools-> Automatic Update. At the back end, a webserver is loaded with the folder "update_ncf20" extracted from zip patches released by NTS.  The latest update_ncf20.zip file is located at http://support.novell.com/downloads/eps/update_ncf20/update_ncf20.zip.

Normally, the support.download.com site is used to set up the auto update mechanism. This download site is pointed to by the update.ini file in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Novell Shared\Aupdate folder. Note that C: represents the drive on which Windows is installed. It could also be D: or E: drive.

The update.ini file has the following of interest:

Server = support.novell.com
DownloadDir=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Novell Shared\Aupdate\Downloaded Files\
ServerDir=downloads\eps\update_ncf20

If a customer wishes to have a local webserver, he would have to change the Server and ServerDir values to point to the new web server and download directories. The Proxy settings may also be changed in case no proxy server exists, using the following NCF menu Tools-> Automatic Update -> Settings -> Proxy settings -> Do not use proxy server. There is no other way of installing patches.
