Environment

Novell Identity Manager User Application 3.0.1
Novell Identity Manager Identity Manager 3.0.1

Situation

How can you allow anonymous users to self register themselves in the 3.0.1 User Application Portal

Resolution

1) Log into the User Application with a user who has administrative rights.
2) In Administration > Portlet Admin, register a new instance of the CreatePortlet (for example: "Self Registration").
3) Select the new Self Registration portlet instance, go to the Settings tab. Set Requires Authentication to false and click Save Settings.
4) Go to the Preferences tab and modify the preferences as required (for example, you may want to View/Edit Custom Preference and remove all entities but the User and then modify the User attributes to limit the attributes displayed).

5) In Administration > Page Administration complete the following tasks:
-
Create a new page and add the new Self Registration portlet to it(add it to the Guest Pages category, plus any other category if you want logged in user
to see it).
-
Under 'Page Tasks' click on 'Add Permissions' icon and uncheck "View Permissions set to Admin Only". Then click on the 'Save' button and then the'Close'
button.
-
Under 'Page Tasks' click on 'Select Content' icon. Add the new instance of the Create Portlet to this Guest page. (for example: If you named the new
Create Portlet instance "Self Registration", Add "Self Registration" to Guest page.) After selecting the Portlet click on 'Save Contents',
-Under 'Page Properties' click on 'Save Page' icon.

Anonymous users should now see the Self Registration page appear under Guest Pages when they go to the User Application Portal. When they click on this page, they will then see the Self Registration portlet displayed, where they will be able to create a new account that will grant themaccess to the Portal.
