Error: CPU0 FATAL TRAP 13 starting XEN Kernel on AMD Opteron hardware

Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
Hewlett Packard ProLiant DL385 G2 AMD Opteron



Situation

Booting the XEN Kernel on AMD Opteron Pacifica hardware results in the following crash of the host system: ERROR:

INTERRUPT CONTEXT.
(XEN) System shutting down -- need manual reset.
(XEN) ************************************

Resolution

This issue is fixed withNovell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Support Pack 1.

Workaround:
Enable the virtualization support in the BIOS. This enables (hardware) virtualization/SVM (Secure Virtual Machine).
