Environment

Novell iPrint Client for Windows Vista

Situation

The Novell iPrint Client for Vista fails to install on some machines. This problem is noticed more with laptops. The error states:

"Novell iPrint Install has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available"

This problem is encountered when attempting to install the iPrint Client on Vista when the network card is disabled. There are scenarios with laptops that will cause a network card to be disabled without the users knowledge.

Resolution

Install the 5.04 version of the iPrint Client. To find this client:
- go to download.novell.com
- select iPrint from the"Product or Technology" drop down
- click the search link.

Workaround:
Boot up the laptop with the power cord plugged in and the network card enabled. Then install the iPrint client.

or

Change the power management configuration to not disable the network card when running off battery power.

Additional Information

Steps to Duplicate:
1. Unplug the power from the laptop (laptop running on battery power)
- Some laptops cut power to the network card when running on battery power.
2. Install the iPrint client.
3. The install will fail with the above error.
- Plugging the power back in and installing the iPrint client again
will often not cause the problem to go away. The laptop must boot up
while the power is plugged in.

The error can also be duplicated on desktop machines by disabling the network card before installing the iPrint client.
