Situation
All of a sudden it appeared as if GroupWise gwia gateway alias's
were not functional anymore, in that when an internet user would
send a mail message to @IDomain, the
result would be that this user would get an undeliverable message
showing the error 550 No Such Recipient.
If the message is sent to the@Idomain
then the message is received properly.
So it was an GroupWise gwia alias problem.

So it was an GroupWise gwia alias problem.
Resolution
It was discovered that the customer has multiple GWIA agents, GWIA1
and GWIA2. The gwia gateway alias for the user(s) was set to
GWIA1 and not GWIA2.
The cause of the problem was that the user had an email security appliance called Postini that was sending the inbound messages to the wrong gwia, in this case GWIA2, where there was no such user gateway alias.
A GroupWise gateway alias is defined on a per gateway basis, so if there is a possibility that both GWIA's could be used for inbound mail then you would need to have a gateway alias for both gwia gateways. This is working as designed.
When the message was received mistakenly by GWIA2, it had no record of a gateway alias for the user(s).
The best solution would be to move away from using a gateway alias and use internet addressing overrides, either at a Domain, Post Office, or User level. You can access this setting under a GroupWise Domain, Post office or GroupWise User under the object properties in ConsoleOne, GroupWise tab, Internet Addressing.
