Environment

This information is relevant for the following IDM components:
Novell Identity Manager Nsure Identity Manager 2.0
Novell Identity Manager Identity Manager 3.0
Novell Identity Manager iManager Plug-ins
Novell Identity Manager Password Synchronization
Novell Identity Manager Remote Loader
Novell Identity Manager Drivers
NOTE: Novell Identity Manager 3.5 is not affected by the Daylight Saving change since it is shipped with the updated JRE.

Situation

Starting in 2007, Daylight Saving Time will be extended by 4 weeks in most U.S. and Canadian time zones. Daylight Saving Time will begin the second Sunday in March (3 weeks earlier) and will end the first Sunday in November (1 week later). This change complies with a provision of the Energy Preservation Act of 2005 and affects all U.S. time zones that observe Daylight Saving Time (DST). Many Canadian provinces that share or border these time zones have also announced plans to adopt this change.
Are any modifications needed for the Novell IDM product to accommodate the 2007 Daylight Saving Time change in the United States and Canada?

Resolution

IDM requires that the JRE(s) that are used be patched or updated. There is a tool from Sun that can be used to patch the 3 Sun JRE's (Linux, Solaris, Windows) that we ship with IDM. We recommend running the updater with the -f and -bc parameters. It can be downloaded here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/tzupdater_README.html

The IDM JRE can be located a few ways. With IDM 3 the package installing the environment is named 'novell-NOVLjvml' so the Linux command `rpm -ql novell-NOVLjvml` will show you the files installed with this package. Using `pkgchk -l NOVLjvml` on Solaris will also show you files as they are checked including the 'jre' softlink (mentioned hereafter). One particular file on Linux, j2re-1_4_2_08-linux-i586.bin, is in the same part of the filesystem where the JRE was extracted. The default directory created for the JRE is named j2re1.4.2_08 and a softlink of 'jre' also points to this directory.

For eDirectory 8.8 the JRE is in a directory under /opt/novell/eDirectory/lib/nds-modules and for 8.7 it is under /usr/lib/nds-modules .

IBM has a similar tool for AIX:

Additional Information

NOTE: For platforms other than NetWare, there tends to be many JVM's installed on a single machine and each one of them will need to be individually updated.
