Situation
GroupWise 2012 client auto-update fails
Error running GroupWise client AutoUpdate: "SetupIP could not copy the GroupWise files. Please contact your system administrator." Resolution
After configuring the GroupWise AutoUpdate process on a Windows 2008 R2 server as per the documentation at https://www.novell.com/documentation/groupwise2012/gw2012_guide_admin/data/bv4v0uy.html, when the user is prompted to update and clicks "Yes" to start the auto-update, the process fails with this error:
The error is caused by the presence of a file called web.config that is created by IIS in the c:\inetpub\wwwroot\gwclient directory when you configure that directory (as per the GW 2012 documentation) to allow directory browsing and file download. To resolve the issue, simply add the hidden attribute to that web.config file, either by right-clicking on that file in Windows Explorer and checking the box for "Hidden" or by opening a CMD window and changing to the c:\inetpub\wwwroot\gwclient directory and running the command attrib +H web.config, and then stopping and restarting the Worldwide Web Publishing service.
