ERROR -669: Login failed during health check after upgrading to eDirectory 8.8 SP5

After upgrading eDirectory from 8.7.3 to 8.8 SP5 32-bit on the Linux\Unix platforms the following error can be seen during the health check:

Performing eDirectory health check...
ERROR -669: Login failed for user "admin.novell.HV_TREE"
Enter the password for admin.novell.HV_TREE:

This error is seen if the server was not properly patched with a current copy of NICI.

To obtain the the latest version of the Security Components of eDirectory 8.8 SP5 please use the following URL:

https://download.novell.com/patch/finder/#keywords=NMAS 3.3.2.3 to locate the patch.

 

If this issue has already occurred perform the following steps:

1. Open another shell to the server so the script can be killed:

 

 

2. Upgrade the old 8.7.3 version of NICI to the new one in 8.8 SP5:

 

 

3. Run ndsconfig upgrade to complete the upgrade:

 

 

Once this is complete the server should now be successfully upgraded to 885.

 

 

Running ndsstat should now show that the database is open and the version is now 8.8 SP5 (20219.15).
