Environment

Novell GroupWise 8

Situation

Symptoms:
Error: "The version of GroupWise you are using cannot access this Post Office" when trying to connect with the GroupWise client.

Changes:
Installed GroupWise 8 onto SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 Service Pack 2.
Created a primary domain.
Created a post office.
Deleted this post office from the domain.
Created new post office in the domain, using a different post office name.

Resolution

Removed the deleted post office from the /etc/opt/novell/groupwise/gwha.conf.

Additional Information

Client was installing a new GroupWise system. The Post Office location was created in the wrong path, and the name that the Post Office was created with was incorrect. Client then proceeded to delete the Post Office object from eDirectory, and a new one was created with the correct name, in the desired path.

The deleted Post Office was still listed in the /etc/opt/novell/groupwise/gwha.conf. Even though this defunct post office did not have a database defined anywhere, the grpwise daemon was still trying to load an instance to this one, while simultaneously loading the new post office agent. Both instances were binding to the same address, on the same port. Changing the port or address to the new post office did not resolve the situation, as the defunct post office had no configuration file of its own upon how it should be configured.
