MSI error 3010 while updating ZCM agent to 10.2.1

Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2

Situation

Microsoft Application Event logs shows the following msiexec errorafter an 10.2.1 update attempt:

code 3010(ERROR_SUCCESS_REBOOT_REQUIRED) for novell-zenworks-assetmanagementmodule-10.2.1.33626.msi

Resolution

This machine has not been rebooted after a 10.2.1 agent update.Please reboot the machine to complete the 10.2.1 agent update.

Additional Information

The install of the 10.2.1 agent update requires a reboot, because some files couldn't be copied or overwritten (e.g. because of open files) msiexec.exe throws areturn code 3010 if the reboot has been suppressed.


Is the msiexec code 3010 actually a return code that indicates a failure?

Usually no, it only indicates that a reboot is required before the newly installed application runs properly. A restart is required to complete the install. This message is indicative of a success. This does not include installs where the ForceReboot action is run.
