Environment

Novell ConsoleOne 1.3.6
Novell GroupWise 8 Support Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Situation

  • When connecting to a GroupWise domain in ConsoleOne, ConsoleOne Crashes.
  • When editing the properties of a GroupWise object in ConsoleOne, ConsoleOne crashes.
  • Crashes occur on either 32 bit or 64 bit SLES 11.

Resolution

The problem has been identified and believed to be fixed.  Currently this is under going some testing.  At the time of this TID, GroupWise 8 Support Pack 1 has already been released, and it is expected that the fix should be available in one of the next available releases.

Before proceeding with the workaround, please ensure that you have installed the ConsoleOne that was shipped with the latest GroupWise code.  This code can be in the Software Distribution Directory (SDD), under the following path of a default install: /opt/novell/groupwise/software/admin.  As of GroupWise 8.0.2 Hot Patch 2, the name of the file in the SDD is NOVLc1Linuxjre-1.5.0-11.  If there is a newer one available, please install the newer one.  This version ships with a Linux download and not a NetWare or Windows download.  So if you do not have a Linux SDD, then please create one.  The NetWare and Windows download have their own separate ConsoleOne install that are made for Window machines.

Workaround:
It has been seen that by deleting or changing the Prefs files, that the problem has been known to sometimes correct itself or temporarily relieve the problem, and can be used as a workaround in most cases.  The Prefs files are located in the .consoleone directory at the root directory.  If another user is setup to use ConsoleOne, then the .consoleone directory will be located in the user's home directory.  This directory may also be renamed to provide the same results.  Removing these files will essentially make ConsoleOne run like it is running for the first time, such as Tree login information will be gone, domain directory paths will be gone, and it will prompt for the mnt/ directory.  The .consoleone directory will be recreated once ConsoleOne is closed.  Currently it is not known how often these directory will have to be removed, if at all after the first time.
