Environment

GroupWise WebAccess Agent
GroupWise 8.0 Support Pack 1 (SP1)
Novell NetWare 6.5
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server
Novell Open Enterprise Server (NetWare and Linux)
Windows Server 2003 & 2008

Situation

A problem was introduced with GroupWise 8.0 Support Pack 1, where after updating to SP1 the GroupWise WebAccess Agent crashes/abends.   Earlier revisions of GroupWise 8 WebAccess (shipping 8.0.0 and Hot Patch 1) are not affected.

The problem appears to happen when a WebAccess user's connection to the WebAccess Agent (gwinter) times out, and then after that user re-authenticates, they empty their trash.

The crashes occur on all three supported server platforms (NetWare, Linux, Windows).

Resolution

This problem is resolved with the Field Test File gwinter801-FTF1.zip, available by searching for Groupwise 8 beta patches at https://download.novell.com or by clicking on this direct link: https://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=90o-eZOXgkg~.

The fix is expected to be included as part of a future Support Pack for GroupWise 8.

Workaround:
If you are unable to apply the FTF, you should be able to workaround the problem by increasing the WebAccess agent's timeout value (typically 20 minutes) in Console One > Properties of the WebAccess Agent object (such as WEBAC80A) > Access Control tab > Class of Service > Edit > "Timeout after <X> minutes of no use" to a higher value than the WebAccess Application timeout value (which also has a default of 20 minutes). In that configuration, the Application should prompt users to re-authenticate before their connection times out at the agent, which should prevent the crash from occurring.
