Environment

Novell iPrint for Linux

Situation

Creating a printer driver profile results in the following error:

Error: Create Printer Driver Profile Failure
Error occurred configuring driver

Resolution

Cause the workstation to be able to resolve the name to which the Print Manager is bound.

  1. View the PSMHostAddress value in the /etc/opt/novell/iprint/conf/ipsmd.conf
  2. From the workstation attempting to create the Printer Driver Profile, ping that address (the address as shown in the ipsmd.conf)
  3. If the workstation cannot ping the name, resolve that through the DNS configuration or by adding the name to the workstation's hosts file.

Additional Information

During the printer driver profile create process, the iPrint client reads the PSMHostAddress value in the server's /etc/opt/novell/iprint/conf/ipsmd.conf.  The iPrint client then attempts to connect to that address over port 631.  If the address within that conf file can't be resolved by the workstation, the above error will be returned.

There are other reasons the above error can be returned.  As those reasons are reported to Novell, they will be added to this TID.
