Environment

Novell Client for Linux

Situation

Windows clients are able to attach to a Linux server. After some time, the clients lose their connection to a single volume on a server. When the client attempts to log in and run the login script again—when a drive mapping is attempted, the workstation logs the following error:

LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-430: The following drive mapping operation could not be completed.

The client cannot see the volume to attempt to map a drive to it, and cannot log in again to establish a new drive mapping to that volume, even though, all of the drives mapped to other volumes appear to be active and functioning.

Resolution

The client cannot see the volume to attempt to map a drive to it, and cannot log in again to establish a new drive mapping to that volume, even though, all of the drives mapped to other volumes appear to be active and functioning.

Steps for troubleshooting:

  1. Using a VNC session or by physically getting on the Linux OES server, verify that the path is actually mounted on the server.

    A. cd into /media/nss/Volume_Name

    B. cd into the Volume_Name path and verify that the files and directories are there.

  1. Check the ncpserv.conf file

    A. The only NSS volume that should be listed in this file is VOLUME sys /usr/novell/sys

    B. The other volumes are managed in other ways.

    3. Open nssmu.

       A. Select Volumes

       B. Select the volume in question.

       C. Dissmount the volume.

       D. Mount the volumes.

The ncp services should now be working for this volume.

The windows client should now be able to map drives to the volume.
