Environment

Novell GroupWise 8 Support Pack 1 or Later
Novell eDirectory (Linux)
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server
Open Enterprise Server (OES) Linux based

Situation

Symptoms:
Upgrading GroupWise MTA to 8.0.1 or later version causes eDirectory (ndsd) to restart on OES Linux when agents are started after the upgrade.
The restart of eDirectory (ndsd) only occurs the first time when 8.0.x agents are loaded.

Configuration:
eDirectory and GroupWise agents are running on the same OES Linux server.
Domain and post office directory resides on a NSS volume.

Resolution

Reported to Engineering.

This is the new functionality and working as designed. It's an added measure to protect GroupWise database from corruption when running on OES Linux.

Workaround:
Administrator should be able to manually check the CROSS_PROTOCOL_LOCKS setting as mentioned in the TID - 3036467 and then manually create a file named "ncpChecked" in the domain and/or post office directory and add "ncp lock checked" without quotes in that file, so the agents won't perform cross protocol check and restart the ndsd.
