Environment

Novell GroupWise 7
Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise WebAccess

Situation

One user gets an error when logging in to GroupWise WebAccess, even though their userID & password are correct.  User can successfully login to the GroupWise client.
Error: "Please login again. You may have typed your name or password incorrectly. Remember that your user name must be unique."

Error in the WebAccess Application log file:
Error: "HH:MM:SS, <GWAP>, -, WARN, userID, Login failed (<ip_addr of webacc agent>:7205): More than 1 user with the same name or user ID.  Duplicate users must enter domain.po.userID"

Resolution

Customer had a duplicate external user in an external domain & post office to allow that user to be added to a GroupWise Distribution List even though they are not part of the GroupWise system.  Even though that user had a unique email address assigned using an Internet Addressing override, the UserID was the same as an existing GroupWise user, so when the original user tried to login to GroupWise WebAccess, the user lookup failed because the userID was not unique.

Solution is to rename the external user and then use the Internet Addressing override settings for that external user so that the renamed user will continue to use their existing (external) email address.
