Situation
Despite having the SLP options 78 and 79 configured under DHCP, DHCP is not responding to INFORM packets from the client requesting the SLP options.
Resolution
By default, DHCP servers are not made authoritative unless the administrator explicitly adds the "authoritative; " statement (without quotes) in the /etc/dhcpd.conf. Typically, only the authoritative DHCP server will respond back to a multicast request. All non-authoritative DHCP servers will simply discard the request.
Add the statement to the /etc/dhcpd.conf and restart dhcp. The server will now be authoritative and respond to the requests. (NOTE: If utilizing multiple DHCP servers on the same network, such as in a fail-over setup, this may not apply. Enabling multiple, authoritative DHCP servers on the same network may create unexpected conflicts).
