nmpwd not changing the password in startup file used for Novell Messenger

This document (7010828) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

Novell Messenger 2.2
Novell Messenger 2.1

Situation

The password of the admin-user defined in the startup files for Novell Messenger has been changed.
The nmpwd utility is not changing the password.
Novell Messenger will not start and in the .err log there is an authentication error.

Resolution

The documentation mentions the following to be used:
nmpwd --startup=<path to startup file> [--password=<new password>]

This is not correct. The path to startup file should also included the name of the startup file (by default strtup.ma and strtup.aa).
E.g.:
./nmpwd --startup=/etc/opt/novell/messenger/strtup.ma

This needs to be done for all startup files separately.
