ACU.EXE will not update Novell Client properties

Environment

Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows
Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows Vista
Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 7
Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 2008
Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 2008 R2

Situation

The system administrator wants to push new Novell Client settings to workstations, but does not want to update the Novell Client itself to a newer version. To accomplish this, she executes ACU.EXE with the /NCPF switch. However, the settings specified in the NovellClientProperties.txt file are not applied.

Resolution

The ACU.EXE /NCPF command line option is used by ACU.EXE as an alternative source for supplying the same information that finding "NovellClientPropertiesFile=" set in the INSTALL.INI will provide.  This means it will be used as a command line parameter to SETUP.EXE only if ACU.EXE determines that SETUP.EXE needs to be invoked to update the client.

Specifying ACU.EXE /NCPF does not force installation of the Novell Client, nor does using it force imposition of the NCPF file settings alone.  Applying only the NCPF file settings is a feature of Novell Client Update Agent, but is not a feature of ACU.EXE or SETUP.EXE.
