Mounting CIFS Share From Windows 2008R2 Fails: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER

This document (7011847) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (SLED)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
Common Internet File System (CIFS)
NT Lan Manager version 2 (NTLMv2)
Microsoft Windows Vista
Microsoft Windows Server 2008

Situation

SLES/SLED and RHEL based machines cannot mount a CIFS share from a Windows 2008R2 server with NTLMv2.  They can however mount CIFS using NTLM and NTLMi. NTLMv2 is enabled in the Microsoft Network Client.

/var/log/messages shows:
kernel: Status code returned 0xc000000d NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
CIFS VFS: Send error in SessSetup = -22
CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -22

Resolution

On the Windows 2008R2 server apply the hotfix "Fix240171" found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957441
Some users have had to manually install the hotfix on Microsoft Windows Server 2008.

Additional Information

While the article applies to 6.0, it resolved an issue for 6.1
