Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux
Dynamic Storage Technology (DST)

Situation

On OES Linux servers, files that are located on a shadow volume (DST) are not visible from NCP clients.
CIFS clients are not affected by this problem.

In general this problem only occurs when a root mapping is made to a directory and not to the root of a volume.
This problem will only occur after a reboot of the server, or after a resource migration in a cluster environment.

Resolution

The problem is reported to engineering and will be resolved in a future support pack.

In the interim, a possible 'work around' is to create a mapping to the root of the volume and browse down to the directory with the missing data. This action will populate the NCP dircache and make the data visible again for all NCP clients.

Cause

The root cause is that the NCP dircache is not yet populated when the drive mapping is made.

As long as a user has not yet browsed down from the parent folder, the user will not be able to see the contents of the parent folder (at least for the data that resides on the shadow volume).

Additional Information

Upon request, an FTF is available from Novell Technical Services.

Please open a Service Request with Novell Technical Services, and refer to Bug #808038.
Along with opening the SR, please provide an actual supportconfig from the server exhibiting the problem.
