Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux Support Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2

Situation

After applying the latest channel updates, unconfigured NIC cards cannot be configured via the YaST network utility without it crashing.  The specific version of the YaST plugin exhibiting the problem is yast2-network 2.17.182.7-0.5.1

Resolution

Resolved in yast2-network-2.17.182.8-9.2

As of April 29, 2013 the patch has not yet made it to the update channels.  If the patch is needed and not available yet in the channels, please contact Novell support.

Additional Information

OLD WORKAROUND:  If the ifcfg file is created before entering into the YaST plugin, the unconfigured card can now be configured.  IE:  touch /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth1

Restarting the network has not been bringing up the interface, even after it is configured (rcnetwork restart).  Manually bringing up the interface with ifup does work (ifup eth1)
