Environment

Novell iPrint for Linux

Situation

On Windows 7 and later, if the user name is removed from the iPrint Settings Passwords tab, the user clicks the link to install a secure printer, the iPrint printer installs without a prompt for authentication.

Resolution

Novell is investigating this issue.

Workaround:
After removing the user name from the Passwords tab, restart the Windows Print Spooler or restart the workstation.

Additional Information

With Windows XP, removing the iPrint user name from the Passwords tab results in deleting the user name from memory.  The next attempt to install a secure iPrint printer or use an already installed secure iPrint printer, the iPrint client will prompt for credentials.

However, with Windows 7 and later, that same action to remove the user name from the Passwords tab does not remove the user name from memory.  The next attempt to install a secure iPrint printer or use an already installed secure iPrint printer, the iPrint client will not prompt for authentication.

Novell is investigating if we can remove the credentials from memory on Windows 7 and later when removing the user name from the Passwords tab.
