Environment

Novell Client 2 for Windows 7 SP3 IR2 and earlier
Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 8
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux Support Pack 1

Situation

Drive mapping errors displayed in the login script results window.  An example of an error reported is:
LOGIN-LGNWNT32-430: The following drive mapping operation could not be completed.
   [INS ROOT S1:=<VOLUME>]
The error code was c00000bb.

Resolution

Reset the Novell Client 2 "Name Services" back to its default settings.  This can be accomplished by right clicking the red N in the system tray, select Novell Client Properties, click on the Name Services tab, make sure DNS, SLP and NCP are highlighted.

Cause

The computers experiencing the issue had the NCP name service deselected.  The NCP name service should never be deselected.  In this specific environment, SLP was the only configured name service.  This forced the client to go through SLP for all name resolution and in this specific case there were servers not registered in SLP which ultimately caused the drive mappings to fail.

Additional Information

This information applies to the Novell Client 2 SP3 IR2 and earlier.  Beginning with the IR3 release of the client, the option to select or deselect NCP was removed as there was never an intention for this to be configurable.
