Environment

Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 ZENworks Explorer
Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 Bundles

Situation

When Bundles assignment is set to show in the Start Menu and the Windows Setting "Show Desktop Icons" is unchecked, the Bundles will not show in the Start Menu either.

Error seen in zmd-messages.log:

"[explorer] [10] [] [NALModule] []
[isIconOnDesktopEnabled(): could not read registry:
reason: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.] [] []"

Resolution

Workaround:
Add the following registry to the managed devices either manually or via a bundle:
HKLM\Software\Novell\ZCM\NAL\SetIconOnDesktop
Type: 32 bit DWORD
Value: 0
Once this registry key is added reboot the device and then the ZENworks icon will show up on the All Programs Section of the Start Menu.
