NetIQ PlateSpin Migrate 9.3

Situation

This article provides info about supported source workloads and target hosts in PlateSpin Migrate 9.3. For quick reference, see the matrix towards end of the article for source/target compatibility and full/semi automation support.

Note: This article is changed with every new release of Platespin Migrate. For info about previous releases, please see links to relative articles in additional information section.

Resolution

Supported Microsoft Windows Workloads

For Windows platform, PlateSpin Migrate supports the following portability features:

- Workload portability: Peer-to-peer migrations (P2V, V2V, V2P, P2P).
- Peer-to-peer workload synchronization with Server Sync (P2V, V2V, P2P, V2P).


Operating Systems:

Windows Server 2003 (SP1, SP2, R2) Standard/Enterprise 32-bit, 64-bit
Windows Server 2008 (SP1, SP2, R2) Standard/Enterprise 32-bit, 64-bit
Windows Server 2012
Windows Vista, Business/Enterprise/Ultimate (+ SP1, SP2), 32-bit, 64-bit
Windows 7 32-bit, 64-bit
Windows 8
Small Business Server 2003 & 2008

NOTES:

> Windows Server editions with Domain Controller role are also supported.
> Windows 2003 requires SP1 or higher.


Localization support

PlateSpin Migrate supports the following localized versions of source Windows workloads:

- English
- French
- German
- Japanese
- Chinese

 
Supported Linux Workloads

For the Linux platform, PlateSpin Migrate provides Live and Offline peer-to-peer workload portability support (P2P, P2V, V2P, V2V), including workload synchronization with Server Sync.

- Supported Linux file systems are EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, REISERFS and NSS (OES2 platform).

Some of the supported Linux versions require that you compile the PlateSpin blkwatch module for source workload specific kernel.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS/ES/WS 4, 5, 6, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 32-bit, 64-bit
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 9, 10, 11 (+ SP1) 32-bit, 64-bit
Open Enterprise Server (OES) 2 (+ SP2, SP3)
Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 32-bit only


NOTES:

> Linux-based source workloads must be running a Secure Shell (SSH) server.
> Linux-based source workloads must be Physical or Fully Virtualized. Para-virtualized Linux source VMs are not supported.
> Live transfer is not supported for RHEL 8 and OEL platform.
> OEL workloads using Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel are not supported.
> PlateSpin block-based module (blkwatch) must be compiled for RHEL 5.6-5.8, 6.3 and all customized kernels. See TID 7005873 for more details.
> Kernel version 3.0.13 of SLES 11 is not supported. Upgrade to kernel version 3.0.27 or later before discovering the workload

 
Supported Target Virtualization Platforms

Fully automated:

VMware vCenter 4.1 (+ U1, U2, U3), 5.0 (+ U1), 5.1.
VMware ESX 4.1 & 4.1i (+ U1, U2, U3), 5.0 (+ U1), 5.1.

*ESXi servers must be licensed to allow for remote execution in order to perform fully-automated migrations. (The free version of the ESXi license does not include this functionality).


Semi-automated:

Novell Xen Hypervisor on SLES 10 SP2
Microsoft Hyper-V3 Windows 2012 server
Citrix Xen Server 6.1


NOTES:
 
> Guest OS platform being migrated must be supported by the target virtual host platform. Please check vendor's documentation for details.
> Linux workloads can be migrated to Para-virtualized VM targets on Novell Xen Hypervisor. Refer to page 81 of product user guide.
> For more information on the semi-automated migration process, refer to section "" product user guide.
