SCSI disks are not discovered for a Hyper-V 2012 VM

This document (7013463) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

NetIQ PlateSpin Migrate 9.3

Situation

When attempting to discover a Hyper-V 2012 VM using the target take control ISO, SCSI disks are not discovered.

Resolution

It is necessary to use a Linux Ramdisk based on SLES 11 SP2 for the following steps.  Contact support for an ISO if needed.

1. Boot the Hyper-V 2012 VM with the target take control ISO
2. Once the machine is booted and awaiting registration information, use Alt + F7
3. Run the following command:

modprobe hid-hyperv

4. Once the command completes, use Alt + F1 to return to the registration screen
5. Complete the registration as normal

Cause

The SLES 11 SP1-based ISO does not support SCSI disks in Hyper-V 2012.  By default, the SLES 11 SP2-based ISO doesn't load the necessary modules to handle SCSI disks in Hyper-V 2012, but such disks are supported.
