Environment

Novell iPrint for NetWare

Situation

NetWare iPrint server ABENDs with the following in the SYS:\SYSTEM\abend.log

Server <ServerName> halted <date+time>
Abend 1 on <processor>: Server-<version>: CPU Hog Detected by Timer
Running process: Interrupt service routine (nested count 0)
Interrupted process: Apache_Worker X Process
Thread Owned by NLM: APACHE2.NLM

Resolution

Apply the Apache2.nlm dated November 2013 or later.  This update can be obtained from the iprntnw65sp8f patch set.

Workaround:
Workaround Step 1: Remove the SSL feature on all printers
  • Go to iManager -> iPrint -> Manage Print Manager -> Printer Agents -> Services -> Check the top "Secure" box -> Uncheck the top "Secure" box -> Click Apply
    • These steps will turn Secure off for all printer agents.
Workaround Step 2: Remove the SSLUpgrade ability from the iPrint Apache configuration.
  • Open the  sys:\Apache2\iprint\ipp.conf
  • Put a # in front of the following line:
    • "NWSSLUpgradeable 631 "SSL CertificateDNS" in ipp.conf
  • Save the file
  • Restart Apache
    • ap2webdn
    • ap2webup

Cause

Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) workstations have a new version of IPP.  When a Mac OSX 10.9 machine attempts to authenticate to a secure enabled iPrint printer, Apache will ABEND.
