Error loading the GroupWise Client: Unreturned Documents

Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 2012

Situation

When starting up the GroupWise client a message appears: "There are one or more documents not returned to the library..."

and you'll get the option to click on yes to return them to the library.

In some cases by clicking on "yes" to return the documents GroupWise would come up with the same message again during startup.

Resolution

There are two options for fixing the error. If the first option doesn't work, you can use the second.
1. Manually select all document references and return them to the library (right click and select "reset document preferences")

2. Under WIN95 open the WINDOWS Registry Editor (Regedit) and look for the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Client\Library\Open\

under the "Open" folder you'll find the author names and a list of open documents. You can manually delete them and the message will disappear. This option actually gives you a list of open documents per author.
