Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux

Situation

Viewing the "Diagnostic information" in Novell Remote Manager (NRM) shows "id broker errors" and is growing.
Example of error in ncpserv.log
[! 2014-04-01 20:46:40] ncp_idbroker_handler: (verb=0 len=16 ver=1) handler failed rc = -765

Resolution

Restarted ndsd which reinitializes all the NCP sockets.

Cause

These errors come, when it is not able to map GUID to DN.
However, we do not log the GUID in any log level.
NSS triggers the ncp idbroker handler via verb 0 to map GUID to ID. Either the GUID that it's looking up is not local to this server or something is wrong with the socket.

Additional Information

To gather more information about these errors, there is an NCP set parameter that can be enabled which will log additional information about the error to the /var/opt/novell/log/ncpserv.log
