Exception trying to modify the file joinproxy_config.properties after a scheduled general refresh is triggered

Environment

Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.3.1 Join Proxy service

Situation

When a general refresh is triggered due to a scheduled event and not after manual execution, the file joinproxy_config.properties file will be modified by the agent services and also the joinproxy service causing the exception on the zmd-messages.log file which eventually is uploaded to ZCC for analysis.

Based on this behavior ZCC will display the exception below for the managed device experiencing this issue every time a scheduled refresh is triggered:

Error: [8/29/14 12:57:46 AM] JoinProxySatelliteModule JoinProxySatellite.ErrorUpdateJoinProxyConf Exception While updating joinproxy_config properties.

Resolution

This is fixed in version 11.4 - see KB 7016614 "ZENworks Configuration Management 11 SP4 (11.4.0) - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7016614

Workaround:

This behavior will only be experienced during a scheduled general refresh and not when a refresh is performed manually, so you can perform the manual refresh to modify this file in order to keep the right values.

Another workaround that can be implemented is just to stop the Join Proxy Service on the affected device, execute a general refresh by running the command zac ref general bypasscache and once the refresh finishes then just start the Join Proxy Service again.

Typically, the error does not affect join proxy functionality.
