Novell Messenger Windows Client tries to install to c:\windows directory

Environment

Novell Messenger 2.x for Windows
Novell Messenger 3.x for Windows

Situation

When upgrading or re-installing the Novell Messenger client for Windows, the install will attempt to go to the c:\windows director rather than the C:\Program Files (x86) directory and subsequently displays "cannot find language file" error.  Uninstall appears to work, but installing an older, known working build then fails in the same manner.

Resolution

This is due to a corrupt installation (probably a failed update or a failed uninstall). To fix it follow these steps:

1. Make sure you have uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs
2. Download and run the tool from here http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en-us
3. When it asks what you are having a problem with, select "Uninstalling"
4. Work your way through the prompts and when it asks you to select a program that you are having a problem with select "Not listed"
5. Then manually enter this {3fc0833e-073c-4d5d-a046-74bc32358cb3}
6. Work your way through the remaining prompts (ignore the name unavailable stuff)
7. When it is done running, delete the following directory (be careful to not delete the wrong one)
     c:\Program Files(x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{3fc0833e-073c-4d5d-a046-74bc32358cb3}
8. Try to install the build again
