Environment

Novell Filr 1.0
Novell Filr 1.1

Situation

In some cases a file may become locked such as when the application being used to modify a file crashes.

Note that as of Filr 1.1 there is now an option to do this from the Filr Administration Console.  Steps to resolve this for version lower than Filr 1.1 can be found in the Additional Information section of this TID.

Resolution

To unlock a file using Filr 1.1
  1. Log into the Filr Application Web Console as admin via https://server:8443
  2. Select Net Folders and navigate to the locked file
  3. Click the drop down arrow next to the file and click View Details
  4. Select Forcibly Unlock This File to unlock the file
*note this button will not appear if the file is not locked

Cause

Because a file was closed in an unexpected way, Filr may keep a file locked since it was not properly closed.

Additional Information

  1. To unlock files for Filr version below 1.1
  2. Use a modified URL link using the locked files binderId, entryId and fileId Information
  3. First, gather this information by logging into the Filr Administrative Console as admin and go to the folder that contains the locked file.
  4. At the bottom of the screen will be a link that says Permalinks, click it.
  5. In the Permalink URL, the number shown after /binderId/ is the binderId number.
In the example below, 43 is the binderId
    https://ddoughty6.lab.novell.com:8443/ssf/a/c/p_name/ss_forum/p_action/1/binderId/43/action/view_permalink/entityType/folder/novl_url/1
  6. Next we need to find the entryId and fileId
  7. Once in the folder, directly to the right of the file name will be a small downward pointing arrow, click it and select View details then select Permalinks at the bottom of this page.
  8. There will now be two URL links shown.  A Permalink and a File Download Permalink.
Find the entryId in the Permalink URL.
It will be the number after /entryId/
For example 7 is the entryId in this example below
    https://ddoughty6.lab.novell.com:8443/ssf/a/c/p_name/ss_forum/p_action/1/action/view_permalink/entityType/folderEntry/entryId/7/novl_url/1

Find the fileId in the File Download Permalink URL.
It will be the number after /folderEntry/randomnumber/
In the example below, 171b574847a21d030147a2305e88004c is the fileId
    https://ddoughty6.lab.novell.com:8443/ssf/s/readFile/folderEntry/7/171b574847a21d030147a2305e88004c/1375961092000/lastView/catalina.out
  9. Finally use this link below, adjust the hostname and use the binderId, entryId, and fileId collected.
    https://<hostname>:8443/ssf/a/do?p_name=ss_forum&p_action=1&fileId=<fileId>&operation=force_unlock_file&binderId=<binderId>&action=view_folder_entry&entryId=<entryId>&vibeonprem_url=1
