ZENworks Configuration Management - ZCM 11 Upgrade Cookbook

This document is assembled, focused to assist in navigating to ZCM v11.4.3.
This example starts at ZCM ZONE version v11.2.x to v11.3.x, finishing at v11.4.3.
Includes common upgrade/update best practices with html links, documents and videos.

Note: Be sure to reference the documentation for your specific environment.

Downloads
Locate downloads through the Novell download site or patches through Patch Finder
Do not extract .iso’s (KB 7015386) – the .iso must be “mounted”
Perform MD5 on all downloaded files for data integrity.
Make sure any Downloaded/Imported System Update content replication is 100% on all Primary Servers before starting.

ZENworks Control Center
Browser requirements change depending on the ZENworks version.
v11.3 - ZCC Administrators moves from left pane to ZCC > Configuration > Administrator (Tab)

ZCM Primary Servers
Primary Server Requirements (v11.4.x)
Zones must be upgraded to ZCM 11 SP3 before upgrading to ZCM 11 SP4
Primary Servers – must be at 64-bit OS (introduced in ZCM 11 SP3)
Linux Primary servers –OES is no longer supported with ZCM 11 SP3
Do not upgrade to SLES 11 SP4 until your ZENworks system is at version ZCM v11.4.1.
Be advised that the base Service packs (11 SP2, 11 SP3, 11 SP4) have patches fixing issues along the way.  No need to apply sub revs if quickly moving to the v11.4.3. 
Always reference the documentation and knowledge base or call ZENworks Technical Support if experiencing issues.
Make sure there is disk space available to do the migration: 20Gb+ for Appliance, and 20Gb+ for physical/VM.
Migration from ZENworks ZCM 11 SP3 Linux Primary Server to ZCM 11 SP4 Appliance Primary Server, use the LinuxtoApplianceMigration.zip migration utility off the download site.
Migration from ZENworks ZCM 11 SP4 Linux or Windows Primary Server to ZCM 11 SP4 Appliance Primary Server

• Add a ZCM 11 SP4 Appliance Primary Server in the Zone.
• Bring Appliance Primary Server to same level as the Zone.
  (Example:Zone=ZCM 11.4.2, bring Aappliance up to ZCM 11.4.2)
• Allow time for replication to process
  
• Use the Disaster Recovery process documented to Replace the First Primary Server with the Second Primary Server.

ZCM Database Requirements
Database Requirements (v11.4.x)
If external database be sure to check requirements necessary for db space, db version and OS versioning.
ZCM Audit Database introduced in ZCM v11 SP3.
Caution: Oracle Partitioning may be used for ZCM during the upgrade process if this feature is on (even if Oracle Partioning is not purchased).
External Database Prerequisites and User Schema

ZENworks Adaptive Agents (ZAA)
Managed device requirements (v11.4.x)
If the plan is to upgrade through to the latest version, ZAA Managed devices will not need to be upgraded along the way.
Baselined ZAA v10.3.4 can be upgraded to any higher version. 
Example: Managed devices with ZAA v11.2.x can be directly upgraded to ZAA v11.4.3, after your system primaries and satellites are at ZCM v11.4.3.
ZAA managed devices can only use the available features that the ZAA version installed supports. 
e.g., Managed devices using v11.2.1 will not be using enhanced auditing (introduced in ZCM v11 SP3

Start of Upgrades

Upgrade From ZCM v11.2.x to ZCM v11.3.0a - (TID 7014213) Primary Servers then Satellites (Agents not necessary unless they need added features of ZAA v11.3.0a)
Perform Upgrade Process
Note: New in 11 SP3 is the Audit Database, which is another database configured for auditing.
Note: ZCM 11 SP3 does not support 32-bit Primary Server OS - see Server Migration Overview.

If using Appliance: Novell ZCM 11 SP3 Virtual Appliance Upgrade
Post Upgrade Tasks
Verify Updated files and database integrity by running ZDC on v11.3.0a
(If the zone is ZCM v11.3.4, download from Patch finder searching for v11.3.4 ZDC)
Allow the system settle for a couple days.
Make sure Upgrade is "Success" on the Primary before moving to the next step.

Upgrade From ZCM v11.3.x to ZCM 11.4.0 - (TID 7016614) Primary Servers then Satellites (Agents not necessary unless they need added features of ZAA v11.4.0)

Verify System Requirements
Backup ZCM System Primary server, file system, certificates and database
Run zman zenserver-backup (zsb) command to save zone critical data.

Check ZDC against current running ZCM version.
Perform Upgrade Process
Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11 SP4 Files
If using Appliance: Novell ZCM 11 SP4 Virtual Appliance Upgrade

Post Upgrade Tasks
Verify Updated files and database integrity by running ZDC on v11.4.0
Prerequisites for Updating Satellite Servers or Managed Devices  (to ZCM 11 SP4)
Known Issues ZENworks v11.4.0
Make sure Upgrade is "Success" on the Primary before moving to the next step.

Install Post ZCM v11.4.0 Update Prereq (Post ZENworks 11 SP4 Update Prereq - TID 7016896 must be applied first)
Verify System Requirements
Backup ZCM System Primary server, Certificates and Database
Check ZDC against current running ZCM version.
Perform Post v11.4.0 Upgrade Process
NOTE: If the server is already upgraded to ZENworks 11.4.1 or higher, the "Post 11 SP4 Update Prereq" has already been applied to those primary servers. Do NOT apply the Post 11 SP4 again.

Upgrade From Post ZCM 11 SP4 Update Prereq to v11.4.3 (TID 7017820)
Backup ZCM System Primary server, file system, certificates and Database
Run zman zenserver-backup (zsb) command to save zone critical data.

Check ZDC against current running ZCM version.
Perform v11.4.3 upgrade process
After the Primaries and Satellites are at ZCM v11.4.3, all ZCM agents (v10.3.4 and above) can be upgraded directly to ZCM v11.4.3 Agent.
Note: ZCM v11.4.x Feature Enhancements: Telemetry, MDT Deployment Bundles, ZENworks Source, Change eDir Password via ZENworks icon, etc.
Make sure Upgrade is "Success" on the Primary before moving to the next step.

Post Upgrade Tasks
Verify Updated files and database integrity by running ZDC on v11.4.3
