Environment

Novell Client 2 SP4 for Windows
Microsoft Windows 10 November 2015 update

Situation

After updating to Windows 10 November 2015 (a.k.a. build 10586, a.k.a. "1511"), eDirectory AutoAdminLogon and  TSClientAutoAdminLogon configurations will fail.  Re-installing the Novell Client does not resolve the issue.

Performing a clean Windows installation with build 10586 (instead of updating an existing build 10240 installation) and trying to establish an AutoAdminLogon or TSClientAutoAdminLogon configuration also fails.

Windows 10 Version 1607 (Anniversary Update) should not have this issue.

Resolution

Apply the Microsoft KB3163018 update. Simply "Check for updates..." in Windows Update, and it will now will now show a "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB 3163018)" which was released June 14, 2016.

We have applied this fix through Windows Update, and subsequent testing confirms that LogonUI.exe no longer crashes during the AutoAdminLogon or TSClientAutoAdminLogon scenarios being performed by Novell Client for Windows 2 SP4 (IR2) or Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP4 (IR3).

If desired, you can download stand-alone packages for the KB 3163018 update instead of using Windows Update.  Please see the information and download links listed in http://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/53322-kb3163018-cumulative-update-windows-10-version-1511-a.html.

Cause

LoginUI.exe, the Windows logon user interface host, is either crashing or simply terminating, which results in the failure.

Additional Information

As Windows versions introduced after the KB 3163018 update (such as Windows 10 Version 1607 aka "Anniversary Update") should have all previous fixes applied, this issue should not be present in any post-KB 3163018 version of Windows 10.
