SMT on OES2018 can not connect to NCC

Environment

Open Enterprise Server 2018 (OES 2018) Linux
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12
Subscription Management Tool

Situation

Micro Focus Open Enterprise Server 2018 (OES 2018) has been build on top of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2 (SLES 12 SP2) which also ships with the Subscription Management Tool (SMT).

From SLES12 onwards, the SMT no longer is a separate add-on product but shipped as part of SLES.
However SMT on SLES 12 could never connect to the NCC update channels.
SMT on SLES 12 is only able to connect to the SCC, which only offers SUSE update channels.

Resolution

At this moment, SMT 11 SP3, which runs on top of SLES 11 SP4, is the only free product that can access and mirror the NCC hosted update channels for all OES products, up to and including the OES2018 channels.

The current advice is to host SMT11 on OES2015 SP1, as critical SLES11 SP4 security fixes are constantly evaluated and made available on the OES2015 SP1 updates channel.

Micro Focus Open Enterprise Engineering is working on delivering a solution that is able to connect to the NCC and can run on OES 2018,  SLES 12 and above.

Support for SLE 11 build products has been prolonged to allow a transitional period from SMT11 towards the new OES2018 or SLE 12 based solution that can connect to the NCC.

Additional Information

Other commercial products, like Micro Focus ZENworks Configuration Management (ZCM) or SUSE Manager are currently able to connect to both the NCC as SCC hosted update channels.
