Environment

NetIQ AppManager 7.x
NetIQ Vivinet Assessor 2.x
NetIQ Vivinet Diagnostic 3.x

Situation

What protocol and ports does Vivinet Assessor use to talk to the Endpoints?
Vivinet Assessor is failing to make a connection when trying more than one call at a time or when using something other than the standard port settings.
Vivinet Assessor is failing when there is either a software or hardware firewall somewhere between endpoints or the endpoint and the console.

Resolution

Ports
TCP         10115    Used for communications to and from performance endpoints
TCP         10116    Used by performance endpoints to report test results back to the proxy and VA or Vdiag consoles
RTP/UDP 16383+  Used to do remote traceroute calls by the NetIQ endpoints

Additional Information

Formerly known as NETIQKB72495

The number of ports that will be used will be directly related to the number of calls (multiplier) used within each connector. 1 connector with 1 call between 2 endpoints will require 2 ports.

The port range can be set on a per connector basis. Here is some information that is provided in the help files on the ports that can be used.

A range of ports to use for the simulated VoIP traffic sent between the endpoints.
Remember that RTP uses even-numbered ports. This port range will override the one you set on the Firewall tab of the Assessment Options dialog box. Accepted values are 1 - 65535, inclusive. The first value must be less than the second value.

If the Port Range you set here does not include Port 10115 (endpoint-to-endpoint configuration traffic) and Port 10116 (endpoint-to-Console results traffic), these ports will still be used, and so need to be configured at the firewall.
