Situation

DMA drops group membership in child-parent migration.

Group membership is not migrated for Users in an intra-forest migration scenario.
What is the purpose of DMA Hotfix 72561?

Resolution

This hotfix resolves an issue where performing an intra-forest migration from a child domain to a parent domain using Domain Migration Administrator resulted in the loss of group membership for the migrated users. (ENG284254, ENG294476)


Installing This Hotfix

Note:
This hotfix requires Domain Migration Administrator version 8.0.

Complete the following steps to install this hotfix:

  1. Log on to the DMA console computer using the DMA user account.
  2. Close any open instances of DMA before you install the hotfix.
  3. Run the DMA_80_Hotfix_72561.exe file.
  4. Follow the instructions in the wizard until you have finished installing the hotfix.


Uninstalling This Hotfix

Complete the following steps to uninstall this hotfix:

  1. Log on to the DMA console computer using the DMA user account.
  2. Close any open instances of DMA.
  3. Move the old McsDctWorkerObjects.dll file from the Backup folder under the DMA installation path (by default, C:\Program Files\NetIQ\DMA\Backup) back to the DMA installation folder (by default C:\Program Files\NetIQ\DMA), replacing the newer McsDctWorkerObjects.dll file.
  4. To enable reinstallation of the hotfix if necessary at a later time, complete the following steps:
     Note: Be careful when editing your Windows Registry. If there is an error in your Registry, your computer may become nonfunctional. If an error occurs, you can restore the Registry to its state when you last successfully started your computer. For more information, see the Help for the Windows Registry Editor.
    1. Click Start > Run.
    2. In the Open field, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NetIQ\DMA.
    4. In the right pane, right-click Hotfix and select Delete.
    5. Click Yes.


Modified Files

This hotfix replaces the McsDctWorkerObjects.dll file in the DMA installation folder, by default C:\Program Files\NetIQ\DMA. The hotfix moves the old McsDctWorkerObjects.dll file to the Backup folder under the DMA installation path, by default C:\Program Files\NetIQ\DMA\Backup.

Cause

Group membership was being dropped due to a coding error within DMA.
