"The Installer returned error code 70095." during Recon installation

Situation

During the installation of Recon SQL Server 2005/Server Express 2005, the install fails with the error:

"The installer returned error code 70095."

 

Resolution

 

Error code 70095 usually indicates that the system has an invalid version of MDAC installed or one of the other pre-requisites have been violated.  SQL Server 2005 requires that Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1 or later be installed on the system.  (For a complete list software and hardware requirements for SQL Server 2005, please see the following Microsoft KB Article)

To resolve the issue, the following steps are required:

  1. Uninstall the SQL Native Client in Add/Remove Programs
  2. Install MDAC 2.8 SP1 or later
  3. Re-run the Recon install.  SQL Server 2005 should now install without errors.
