Environment

Novell Client for Windows 2000/XP/2003 4.91 Support Pack 4 Login
FreeRadius on OES Linux

Situation

After implementing passthrough 802.1x authentication in the Novell Client for Windows 4.91 SP4, the following errors are seen in the login script results window:

LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-923: An unexpected error has occurred: 9 (8801).
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-918: This utility was unable to get connection information.
Error code: 8801.
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-923: An unexpected error has occurred: 13 (8801).
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-923: An unexpected error has occurred: 15 (8801).

The problem continues even after adjusting the 802.1x Timeout setting to180 seconds.

The problem occurs only on the initial login after rebooting the workstation.

After performing a workstation-only login, then logging in via the Red-N, the login sequence executes without problem.

Resolution

Apply the wireless client update from Microsoft. See MS KB Article 917021.
