Getting your MAPI application to work after upgrading to GroupWise 7 client

Resolution

SOLUTION: In an upgrade scenario, the GroupWise 7 install creates a new GoupWise MAPI profile but does not delete the old GroupWise MAPI profile nor cause the new"Novell GroupWise" MAPI profile to be designated as the default MAPI profile.

After the install the two MAPI profiles can be seen from Control Panel|Mail
  • Novell Default Settings
  • Novell GroupWise
The issue is that the old profile "Novell Default Settings" does not contain the "Novell GroupWise" MAPI service component that makes calls to the GroupWise 7 client.  To fix the issue the new "Novell GroupWise" profile should be specified as the default profile.  The old Novell Default Settings profile can then be optionally be deleted.

To programmatically set the default MAPI profile to "Novell GroupWise" a Windows reg file containing the following information can be created and merged into the Windows system registry of a Windows workstation.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles]
"DefaultProfile"="Novell GroupWise"

The file name should end in a .reg extension .e.g"gwmapi.reg".  Running this file will merge the specified settings into the Windows registry making "Novell GroupWise" the default MAPI profile.  This reg file could be run from a Login Script or deployed trough the GroupWise client setup via the ADDON configuration referenced in the following link:
