Resolution

There are 3 different sections below - NetWare, Windows and Linux. Under each section, there are subsections for patching the agents on GroupWise 6.5, 7, 8 and 2012. Please make sure to follow the instructions from the correct section and subsection.

NetWare

Patching MTA/POA (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)
Following steps can be followed even while the agents are up and running
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Directory\AGENTS and double click install.exe.
  2. Click Yes to Accept the Software License Agreement.
  3. Click Next on the Overview Screen.
  4. Select Install and click Next.
  5. Select Netware and click Next.
  6. Select the installation path. This would normally be SYS:\SYSTEM .
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select English and click Next.
  9. Click Next on the Domains / Post Offices screen. (Do not add any information on this screen).
  10. Click OK on the Warning "No domain or post office information provided. Startup files will not be configured ".
  11. Click Install on the Summary Screen.
  12. During installation, when prompted to replace newer files, select No.
  13. Once the installation is completed click Finish.
  14. Copy all the *.dc files from the Extracted Support Pack Directory\Domain to the Domain Directory and copy all the *.dc files from the Extracted Support Pack Directory\PO to the Post Office Directory. Please overwrite when it asks.
  15. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, restart the server.
Patching GWIA (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)
There are two methods to update GWIA. The first method is just copying the NLMs and can keep all configuration the same. The second method is running the setup that may have an effect of modifying the existing configuration.

Method 1
Following steps can be followed even while GWIA is up and running
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\GWIA\NLM\EXE .
  2. Copy all the files and paste it to the location from where GWIA runs or any location where we have the GWIA Installed (Please overwrite all the files) (This would normally be SYS:\SYSTEM ).
  3. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, restart the server.
Method 2
Follow the steps listed below
  1. Shut down GWIA
  2. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\GWIA\.
  3. Double Click install.exe.
  4. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  5. Click Next on the Welcome Screen.
  6. Select NetWare and click Next.
  7. Specify the path to the location where NLMs are installed.
  8. Specify the path to the location of the script file.
  9. Uncheck "Update AUTOEXEC file" and click Next.
  10. Specify the IP Address or the DNS host name where the GWIA should be running.
  11. Specify the Message transfer Port (only for GroupWise 7) if being used. This can be found by going to GWIA Properties | GroupWise | Network Address | Message Transfer.
  12. Click Next.
  13. If Web Console needs to be enabled, please put the check mark and enter the information. This is can be done later on in the GWIA Properties | GroupWise | Optional Gateway Settings.
  14. Click Next.
  15. If Relay Host is not being used, please click "Send outbound mail directly to Internet hosts" and click Next. If Relay Host is being used, please click "Send outbound mail through a relay host" and enter in the IP Address of the Relay Host Server and Click Next.
  16. Select the path to the GroupWise Domain Directory.
  17. Type the name of the GroupWise Internet Agent Subdirectory. This can be found by going to GWIA Properties | GroupWise | Identification | Subdirectory.
  18. Click Next.
  19. Click Install.
  20. Once the installation is complete, uncheck all the options and click Finish.
  21. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed w.ith the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, restart the server.
 
Patching WebAccess Agent (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)

There are two methods to update WebAccess Agent. The first method is just copying the NLMs and can keep all configuration the same. The second method is running the setup that may have an effect of modifying the existing configuration.
 
Method 1
Following steps can be followed even while WebAccess is up and running
  1. Browse to the Extracted Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES\NLM Directory .
  2. Select all the files except the LDAP folder and Copy these files to sys:\system (Overwrite the files in sys:\system ) of the Server or any location where the WebAccess is installed. In some cases, cmmap000.bin may not get copied if the WebAccess Agent is running. If that happens, proceed with the copying of other files and copy cmmap000.bin at the very end before restarting the server and after shutting down the WebAccess Agent.
  3. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, restart the server.
Method 2
Follow the steps listed below
  1. Shut down the MTA, POA, GWIA and WebAccess Agent running on the Server
  2. Browse to the Extracted Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES.
  3. Double click Setup.exe.
  4. Select the language and click OK.
  5. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  6. Make sure GroupWise WebAccess Agent is selected and uncheck GroupWise WebAccess Application.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select NetWare and type in the path where the Agent is installed and click Next.
  9. Click OK on the Warning to shudown all the agents on the server to which WebAccess Agent is being installed
  10. Type in the IP Address or DNS host name where the WebAccess Agent will be running.
  11. Type in the TCP Port.
  12. If WebAccess Agent is installed on Cluster, please put a check mark on "Configure the WebAccess Agent for clustering" and click Next.
  13. Specify the path to the Domain Directory.
  14. Specify the name of the GateWay Directory. This can be seen by going to the Properties of the WebAccess Object | GroupWise | Identification | Subdirectory.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Click Yes on the question "The specified directory is already being used by the GroupWise WebAccess Agent object "WEBACXXX", Do you want to update the existing object and its configuration?"
  17. Type in the name of an eDirectory user that has access to the Domain Directory and its password.
  18. If Web Console needs to be enabled, please put the check mark and enter the information. This is can be done later on in the WebAccess Properties | GroupWise | Optional Gateway Settings.
  19. Click Next.
  20. Click Next on the Summary.
  21. Once the installation is complete, uncheck all the options and click Finish.
  22. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, restart the server.  
Patching WebAccess Application (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES .
  2. Double Click Setup.exe.
  3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  4. Uncheck GroupWise WebAccess Agent and make sure only GroupWise WebAccess Application is only checked.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Browse to the Domain Directory\WPGATE\WEBACxxA and click Next.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select Apache Web Server for NetWare.
  9. Browse to SYS:\APACHE2 in "Path to the Web server's root directory" and click Next.
  10. Make sure that the Novell root directory points to \\SERVERNAME\SYS\NOVELL .
  11. Make sure "Use the Tomcat Servlet Container (Recommended)" is selected and make sure that the path points to \\SERVERNAME\SYS\TOMCAT\4 and click Next.
  12. Select the Default language and click Next.
  13. Make sure that the Tree is selected and in Tree Field and the Domain Object is selected in the Context Field and click Next.
  14. Click OK on the Message to use the existing objects.
  15. Click Next on the Summary Screen.
  16. Click Yes to Unload the Web Server.
  17. Click Yes to Unload the Java.
  18. Once the installation is complete, click Finish.
  19. Restart the server.
Patching MTA/POA (GroupWise 8)
Following steps can be followed even while the agents are up and running
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Directory.
  2. Double click setup.exe.
  3. Click Install GroupWise System.
  4. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  5. Make sure Standard is selected and click Next.
  6. Select "Install individual components".
  7. Make sure only "GroupWise Agents" is selected.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select NetWare and click Next.
  10. Select the installation path. This would normally be SYS:\SYSTEM .
  11. Put a check mark on "Install the software files, but do not configure the agents".
  12. Click Next.
  13. Click Install.
  14. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, restart the server.
Patching GWIA (GroupWise 8)
Following steps can be followed even while GWIA is up and running
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Directory.
  2. Double click setup.exe.
  3. Click Install GroupWise System.
  4. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  5. Make sure Standard is selected and click Next.
  6. Select "Install individual components".
  7. Make sure only "GroupWise Internet Agent" is selected.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select NetWare and click Next.
  10. Select the installation path. This would normally be SYS:\SYSTEM .
  11. Put a check mark on "Install the software files, but do not configure the Internet Agent"
  12. Click Next.
  13. Click Install.
  14. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, restart the server.

Patching WebAccess Agent (GroupWise 8)

 
There are two methods to update WebAccess Agent. The first method is just copying the NLMs and can keep all configuration the same. The second method is running the setup that may have an effect of modifying the existing configuration.
 
Following steps can be followed even while WebAccess is up and running
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES\NLM Directory.

  3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  4. Uncheck GroupWise WebAccess Agent and make sure only GroupWise WebAccess Application is only checked.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Browse to the Domain Directory\WPGATE\WEBACxxA and click Next
  7. Browse to SYS:\APACHE2 in "Path to the Web server's root directory" and click Next.
  8. Set the Default language and click Next.
  9. Make sure that the Tree is selected and in Tree Field and the Domain Object is selected in the Context Field and click Next.
  10. Click OK on the Message to use the existing objects.
  11. Click Next on the Summary Screen.
  12. Click Yes to Unload the Web Server.
  13. Click Yes to Unload the Java.
  14. Once the installation is complete, click Finish.
  15. Restart the server.


Windows


Patching MTA/POA (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)
  1. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents.
  2. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\AGENTS and double click install.exe.
  3. Click Yes to Accept the Software License Agreement.
  4. Click Next on the Overview Screen.
  5. Select Install and click Next.
  6. Select Windows and click Next.
  7. Select the installation path. This would be where the GroupWise Agents were installed. Make sure "Install GroupWise agent software" and "Install as Windows Services" are selected.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select English and click Next.
  10. Click Next on the Domains / Post Offices screen. (Do not add any information on this screen).
  11. Click OK on the Warning "No domain or post office information provided. Startup files will not be configured".
  12. Click Install on the Summary Screen.
  13. During installation, when prompted to replace newer files, select No.
  14. Once the installation is completed click Finish.

Patching GWIA (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)
  1. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents.
  2. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\GWIA\NT\EXE and copy all the files and paste it in the folder where GWIA was installed.
  3. Overwrite all the files.
  4. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, start the agents.
Patching WebAccess Agent (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)
  1. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents.
  2. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES\NT Directory.
  3. Select all the files except the LDAP folder copy all the files and paste it in the folder where WEBACCESS was installed.
  4. Overwrite all the files.
  5. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, start the agents.
Patching WebAccess Application (GroupWise 6.5/GroupWise 7)
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES\ on the Windows Server (IIS Server).
  2. Double Click Setup.exe.
  3. Click Yes to accept the Software License Agreement.
  4. Uncheck GroupWise WebAccess Agent. Make sure only GroupWise WebAccess Application is selected and click Next.
  5. Browse to the Domain Directory\WPGATE\WEBACxxA and click Next.
  6. Select Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) for Windows Server. Make sure that the path to the Web Server's root directory is correct. The default is C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT and click Next.
  7. Browse to the Novell Root Directory. The default is c:\novell and click Next.
  8. Make sure English is selected and click Next.
  9. Make sure that Proper Tree is selected and make sure that the Context points to the Domain Object and click Next.
  10. Click Ok on the GroupWise WebAccess Install Message (if any).
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Yes to stop the World Wide Publishing Service and any other Service.
  13. Once the copy has been completed, please uncheck Launch installation summary and Restart Web Server and click Finish.
  14. Restart the Windows Server.

Patching MTA/POA (GroupWise 8/GroupWise 2012)

  1. Double click setup.exe.
  2. Click Install GroupWise System.
  3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  4. Make sure Standard is selected and click Next.
  5. Select "Install individual components".
  6. Make sure only "GroupWise Agents" is selected.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select Windows and click Next.
  9. Select the Installation path. The default is C:\Program Files\Novell\GroupWise Server\Agents .

Patching GWIA (GroupWise 2012)
  1. Double click setup.exe.
  2. Click Install GroupWise System.
  3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  4. Make sure Standard is selected and click Next.
  5. Select "Install individual components".
  6. Make sure only "GroupWise Internet Agent" is selected
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select Windows and click Next.
  9. Select the Installation path. The default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\GroupWise Server\GWIA
  10. Select "Install the software files, but do not configure the agents".
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Install.
  13. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, start the agents.
 
Patching WebAccess Agent (GroupWise 8)
  1. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents.
  2. Browse to the Extracted Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES\NT Directory.
  3. Select all the files except the LDAP folder copy all the files and paste it in the folder where WEBACCESS was installed. The default is C:\Program Files\Novell\GroupWise Server\Agents .
  4. Overwrite all the files.
  5. If there are any other agents on this server, proceed with the patching of the other agents. If there are no other agents, start the agents
Patching WebAccess Application (GroupWise 8)
  1. Browse to the Extracted Support Pack Directory\INTERNET\WEBACCES\ on the Windows Server (IIS Server).
  2. Double Click Setup.exe.
  3. Click Yes to accept the Software License Agreement.
  4. Uncheck GroupWise WebAccess Agent. Make sure only GroupWise WebAccess Application is selected and click Next.
  5. Browse to the Domain Directory\WPGATE\WEBACxxA and click Next.

Patching WebAccess (GroupWise 2012)
  1. Double click setup.exe.
  2. Click Install More Components
  3. Click Install WebAccess
  4. Click Next
  5. Click I accept the terms of the license agreement
  6. Click Next
  7. Select the Destination Web Site and Click Next and proceed with the installation
Linux

Patching MTA/POA (GroupWise 7/8/2012)
If the steps for patching other agents has been followed on this server, then MTA/POA has already been patched. If not, follow the steps listed below
  1. Download and extract the Support Pack.
  2. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents by typing "rcgrpwise stop " without quotes and press Enter.
  3. Launch Shell Konsole.
  4. Browse to the Support Pack directory using the cd command.
  5. Type "./install " without quotes and press Enter.
  6. Select the language and click OK.
  7. Click "Install Products".
  8. Click "GroupWise Agents".
  9. Click "Install Agents".
  10. If there are other agents on the same box, it will ask to upgrade all the agents on the server. Click Yes on the message. If an error "Install failed for an unknown reason (8)." is received while applying the patch, please click the following link.

  11. Once the installation is completed, it would have patched all the GroupWise Agents on the server. Please exit the install and copy all the *.dc files from the Support Pack Directory\domain to the Domain Directory. Copy all the *.dc files from the Support Pack Directory\po to the Post Office Directory. Please overwrite if it asks.
  12. Type "rcgrpwise start " without quotes to start the agents. If the GWIA and WebAccess Agent fails to start due to a missing library libsc_fut.so, please type "ldconfig " without quotes on the Shell Konsole and press Enter.
  13. If this Server has the WebAccess Application, please follow the steps in the WebAccess Application to patch it.
Patching GWIA(GroupWise 7/8/2012)

If the steps for patching other agents has been followed on this server, then GWIA has already been patched. If not, follow the steps listed below
  1. Download and extract the Support Pack.
  2. Launch Shell Konsole.
  3. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents by typiing "rcgrpwise stop " without quotes and press Enter.
  4. Browse to the Support Pack Directory usng the cd command.
  5. Type "./install " without quotes and press Enter.
  6. Select the language and click OK.
  7. Click "Install Products".
  8. Click "GroupWise Internet Agent".
  9. Click "Install Agents".
  10. If there are other agents on the same box, it will ask to upgrade all the agents on the server. Click Yes on the message. If an error "Install failed for an unknown reason (8)." is received while applying the patch, please click the following link.

  11. Once the installation is completed, it would have patched all the GroupWise Agents on the server. Please exit the install and type "rcgrpwise start" without quotes to start the agents. Patching WebAccess Agent (GroupWise 7/8/2012)

If the steps for patching other agents has been followed on this server, then WebAccess Agent is already updated. If not follow the steps listed below
  1. Download and extract the support pack.
  2. Launch Shell Konsole.
  3. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents by typiing "rcgrpwise stop " without quotes and press Enter.
  4. Browse to the Support Pack Directory usng the cd command.
  5. Type "./install " without quotes and press Enter.
  6. Select the language and click OK.
  7. Click "Install Products".
  8. Click "GroupWise WebAccess".
  9. Click "Install WebAccess Agents".
  10. If there are other agents on the same box, it will ask to upgrade all the agents on the server. Click Yes on the message. If an error "Install failed for an unknown reason (8)." is received while applying the patch, please click the following link

  11. Once the installation is completed, it would have patched all the GroupWise Agents on the server. Please exit the install and type "rcgrpwise start " without quotes to start the agents.   12. If this Server has the WebAccess Application, please follow the steps in the WebAccess Application to patch it.
Patching WebAccess Application (GroupWise 7)
  1. Download and extract the support pack.
  2. Launch Shell Console.
  3. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents by typiing "rcgrpwise stop " without quotes and press Enter.
  4. Browse to the Support Pack Directory usng the cd command.
  5. Type "./install " without quotes and press Enter.
  6. Select the language and click OK.
  7. Click "Install Products".
  8. Click "GroupWise WebAccess".
  9. Click "Install WebAccess Application" if the Server is OES Linux OR it SLES 9/10 and the GroupWise Instance of Apache and Tomcat is not being used
    OR
    Click "Install WebAccess Application with Apache and Tomcat" on SLES 9/10 if the GroupWise Instance of Apache and Tomcat is being used. (This option is availabled only on SLES9/10 and not on OES linux)
    Look at the notes section to find out if GroupWise Instance of Apache and Tomcat is being used or not being used.
  10. If there are other agents on the same box, it will ask to upgrade all the agents on the server. Click Yes on the message

    Once the installation is completed, it would have patched all the GroupWise Agents on the server. Please exit the install and type "rcgrpwise start" without quotes to start the agents.
  11. Please type "rcapache2 restart " and "rcnovell-tomcat4 " restart on OES 1.
    OR
    Please type "rcapache 2 restart " and "rcnovell-tomcat5 " restart on OES 2.
    OR
    Please type "rcapache2 restart " and "rctomcat restart " on SLES 9 if GroupWise instance of Apache and Tomcat is not being used.
    OR
    Please type "rcapache2 restart " and "rctomcat5 restart " on SLES 10 if GroupWise instance of Apache and Tomcat is not being used.
    OR
    Please type "/etc/init.d/novell-httpd restart " and "/etc/init.d/novell-tomcat4 restart " without quotes on SLES 9/10 if GroupWise instance of Apache and Tomcat is being used.
Patching WebAccess Application (GroupWise 8)
  1. Download and extract the support pack.
  2. Launch Shell Konsole.
  3. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents by typiing "rcgrpwise stop " without quotes and press Enter.
  4. Browse to the Support Pack Directory usng the cd command.
  5. Type "./install " without quotes and press Enter.
  6. Select the language and click OK.
  7. Click "Install Products".
  8. Click "GroupWise WebAccess".

  10. If there are other agents on the same box, it will ask to upgrade all the agents on the server. Click Yes on the message

  11. Please type "rcapache2 restart " and "rcnovell-tomcat5 " restart on OES 2.

    Please type "rcapache2 restart " and "rctomcat5 restart " on SLES 10.
Patching WebAccess (GroupWise 2012)
  1. Download and extract the support pack.
  2. Launch Shell Konsole.
  3. Shut down all the GroupWise Agents by typiing "rcgrpwise stop " without quotes and press Enter.
  4. Browse to the Support Pack Directory usng the cd command.
  5. Type "./install " without quotes and press Enter.
  6. Select the language and click OK.
  7. Click "Install Products".
  8. Click "GroupWise WebAccess".
  9. Click "Install WebAccess"
  10. If there are other agents on the same box, it will ask to upgrade all the agents on the server. Click Yes on the message
    If an error "Install failed for an unknown reason (8)." is received while applying the patch, please click the following link

  11. Once the installation is completed, it would have patched all the GroupWise Agents on the server. Please exit the install and type "rcgrpwise start" without quotes to start the agents.
  12. Please type "rcapache2 restart " and "rcnovell-tomcat5 restart" on OES 2. Please type "rcapache2 restart" and "rcnovell-tomcat6 restart" on OES11
    OR
    Please type "rcapache2 restart " and "rctomcat5 restart " on SLES 10. Please type "rcapache2 restart" and "rctomcat6 restart" on SLES 11

Additional Information

To find out if GroupWise instance of Apache and Tomcat is being used on SLES 9/10, please follow the steps listed below
1. Launch Shell Konsole.
2. Type "/etc/init.d/novell-httpd status" and if we see it running, then most probably GroupWise instance of Apache and Tomcat is being used.
