Environment

Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 7

Situation

GroupWise MTA eDirectory synchronization on Linux cannot synchronize dynamic groups to GroupWise
Static members that have been added to the dynamic group are synchronized to GroupWise

Resolution

This has been fixed in GroupWise 8 Support Pack 1 or later. GroupWise 8 Support Pack can be downloaded from the following website:

https://download.novell.com/patch/finder. Select the Product GroupWise. Select and download the latest GroupWise 8 Support Pack.

Please click on the link below for instructions on applying Support Pack:
Wokaround Steps:
The workaround is to create a GroupWise domain on NetWare or Windows and configure the domain's MTA to perform the synchronization for the GroupWise system.

Additional Information

MTA eDirectory synchronization on Linux uses LDAP instead of a native API call. The LDAP request searches for users with a groupMembership attribute populated with the name of the group.  This works for static groups.

Dynamic groups do not add an association or groupMembership attribute.  Instead, the dynamic group object has an attribute called member that is populated for each user in the Group.
