Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2 Registration
Situation
After upgrading to ZCM 10.2.1, devices may get -28 or -34 errors attempting to register to the ZCM Zone due to invalid, duplicate, or missing Serial Numbers.
An updated zenworks-registration.war was released as an FTF on September 4th, 2009 to address this issue.
The September 4th FTF, while resolving the issue for most customers, caused some customers to still receive -28 errors while attempting to register devices.
Additionally in some cases with the FTF applied, multiple workstations would register as the same device in ZCC.
Resolution
This is fixed in version 10.2.2 - see KB 7004803 "ZENworks 10 Configuration Management 10.2.2 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at Novell Support
A fix for this issue is intended to be included in a future update to the product: however, in the interim, Novell has made a Patch available for testing, in the form of a Field Test File (FTF): it can be obtained at Novell Downloads as 'ZCM 10.2.1 zenworks-registration.war file' . This Patch should only be applied if the symptoms above are being experienced, and are causing problems.This Patch has had limited testing, and should not be used in a production system without first being checked in a test environment. Some Patches have specific requirements for deployment, it is very important to follow any instructions in the readme at the download site. Please report any problems encountered when using this Patch, by using the feedback link on this TID.
