Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management - ZAM7.5
Novell ZENworks Asset Management 7 - ZAM7
Novell ZENworks Asset Management 3.3 - ZAM3.3
Microsoft SQL 2000
Microsoft SQL 2005

Situation

ERROR: Connect Exception: 15116. Check C:\Program Files\Novell\Zenworks\Asset Management\DBTools\DBSetupLog.txt for details.
The DBSetupLog.txt gives ERROR: Password validation failed. The password does not meet Windows policy requirements because it is too short.

Resolution

Disable the SQL Password Policy during the install of ZAM. The password restrictions are set as a Windows, Domain, or SQL policy. To disable, work with the Windows or Domain administrator, or your Database Administrator.
This can be reenabled after ZAM is fully installed. This will allow the NCStartup user to be created with the password of tally. This is required for ZAM.

Additional Information

The SQL Database has password restrictions in place. The install of ZAM creates 2 users in the SQL Database. They first is NCSystem (who is the dbo) with a password of tally, and the other isNCStartup with a password of tally. During an Enterprise install, it gives you the option to change the username and/or password for the NCSystem account. It does not give you the option to change the NCStartup user or its password. NCStartup MUST have the password of tally, or ZAM will not work properly.
The NCStartup user has select rights to the NC_NetCensusInfo and NC_LoginInfo tables, and no other rights to the database.
