Environment

Novell NetWare 6.5
Novell NFS Gateway for NetWare 6.5

Situation

Concerns exists about which Novell products need updates in order to properly deal with the change in Daylight Savings Time policies which have occurred in 2007 and beyond, and/or situations when a system changes from one time zone to another. This document is created to address only the product: NFS Gateway for NetWare 6.5.

Resolution

There are no updates or concerns directly with the NFS Gateway code in relation to Daylight Savings Time changes. Everything NFS Gateway does with time and date is done through standard OS calls, so as long as the NetWare OS is handling Daylight Savings Time correctly, there should be no concerns in NFS Gateway.

NetWare itself is fully configurable in terms of DST, in that there are no hard-coded policies that would force DST to begin or end at certain times in certain locations.

As always, the NFS Gateway system and the NFS Server from which the file system is being mounted should be in agreement (synchronized) in terms of Universal Time, or GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
