Environment

Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 5
Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 6

Situation

During the installation of NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 5, the server hangs following the loading of the IDECD.CDM driver. At this point the server must be powered off to regain control of the box.
It has been determined that any server hardware that contains the Broadcom/Serverworks HT-1000 chipset can experience this hang issue.
Current listing of servers reported to Novell that have this chipset:
HP ProLiant DL385 G2.

Resolution

The HT-1000 chipset is not supported by the IDEATA.HAM disk driver included with the Support Pack 5 package. To resolve this problem, do the following:
  1. Obtain the latest IDEATA driver. This is available at the following web site: https://developer.novell.com/devres/storage/drivers/index.html#Novell. Click on either the version number or the date for IDEATA.HAM to download the zip file. An IDEATA.HAM disk driver with a date of June 6, 2006 or later with a version of 4.28 or later will address this issue.
  2. Create the following directory path on the DOS partition of the server where the installation is occurring: c:\nwupdate\drivers.
  3. Copy the extracted contents of the zip file into the c:\nwupdate\drivers subdirectory.
  4. Start the NetWare Installation. The install will use device drivers in the \nwupdate\drivers subdirectory before those on the NetWare OS Installation CD. These drivers will automatically be copied out of the \nwupdate\drivers subdirectory to the correct location on the server's DOS partition for proper booting.
Another person manually loading IDEATA.HAM with the /SAFE switch and IDECD.CDM with the /NOAEN & /NOMP switches to get the install to recognize the driver and complete the install.
