Registration using Rebuild option throws exception if IP address is changed

Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.2 Linux Management - ZLM7.2

Situation

ERROR: Could not add '[New IP address]': Error in registration: A DataModel exception occurred while attempting to register host [hostname of server].  Error message: An error occurred creating the device object:

  1. Device was already registered to a server.(no Registration key or rule applied)
  2. Service was deleted, then stop zmd, remove device id and start zmd performed.
  3. IP address of the server was changed
  4. Device was re-registered using rebuild option.(rug sa -r)

Resolution

To obtain access to a hot patch with the fix for this problem, follow the instructions in KB 3469853 "Updates to Novell ZENworks 7.2 Linux Management" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Additional Information

Since the IP address has been changed, the existing device cannot be identified.
Hence a new device will be created, thus any existing assignments will not be carried forward to the new device.
