Duplicate/Historical Entries Displayed In Inventory Reports

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 1 - 10.1 Inventory

Situation

When viewing the inventory report for a device within the ZCC, historical entries are displayed in the report. This can present itself in many ways, the following are common examples:
  1. Some fields have multiple values - e.g. cpu speed may read "180018001800mhz"
  2. Product type appears duplicated - e.g. "Dell Latitude D620 Laptop Dell Latitude D620 Laptop Dell Latitude D620 Laptop"
  3. All historical versions of software - those that have been upgraded and are no longer present -  show up in the device inventory report. This is clearly evident when viewing the ZCM agent version - each module, for example "Remote Management" would show versions 10.0.3, 10.1, 10.1.3 etc    The same behaviour is seen with many other products, Microsoft Internet Explorer v7 upgrade to v8, for example.

Resolution

This is fixed in version 10.2 - see KB 7003225 "ZENworks Configuration Management SP2 (10.2) - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
